Castalia advises on competition issues and provides expert evidence in antitrust proceedings.Alex Sundakov—Alex frequently appears as an expert economic witness in a broad range of legal proceedings throughout Australia and New Zealand. Alex advised on the mergers that created New Zealand’s largest company and the world’s largest dairy exporter, Fonterra, and has provided evidence in support of merger clearance applications. Alex recently helped the Commerce Commission in New Zealand win a high-profile case against doctors for exclusionary practices designed to keep Australian doctors from practicing in New Zealand.
Stephen Gale—Stephen contributes analytic depth and strengths in quantitative analysis to competition cases. In the field of mergers and acquisitions, Stephen’s testimony has contributed to clearances for mergers between urban transport companies, leading dairy producers, power companies and commercial banks. He has recently advised on access issues affecting competition in gas, electricity and telecommunications, and is currently advising on antitrust claims in the payment card industry. Stephen is listed in the International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists.
Ben Gerritsen—Ben is qualified in law and economics and has previous experience working as a litigation lawyer in New Zealand. Ben’s background provides him with a well-developed understanding of competition law, which he uses to develop well-supported economic arguments. Ben has analysed the economic effects of proposed mergers in the ports and electricity sectors, and has advised on the impact of credit card network arrangements on competition in Singapore and New Zealand.
