MARKET MODELLING | Key Staff

Castalia has built and maintains proprietary models to simulate power markets and other competitive trading environments

Dr. Stephen Gale—Stephen has 30 years experience in economic and econometric modelling in the energy sector. To assist in the valuation of power plants and assess policy shifts in competitive power markets, Stephen has developed practical short-run models of dispatch and spot pricing. He forecasts longer-run market prices by projecting the least-cost capacity expansion program. Stephen calibrates market models to reflect conditions in the relevant wholesale power markets, by incorporating influences on bidding behaviour such as market power, ownership structure, ramp-rates and unit commitments.

Uryia Dolev—Uryia managed the development of Castalia’s electricity nodal pricing and dispatch model for power markets in Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines. He recently was part of the team that advised AES on the second-stage and final offer to purchase hydroelectric and coal-fired power plants in the Philippines. His modelling led to the successful purchase of the 600MW Masinloc coal plant.
