Webinar: How Germany plans to phase out coal without losing all the coal jobs

Germany has committed to completely decarbonize its national energy system. Going 100% renewables, however, comes with electricity dispatchability challenges. One possible solution would be to replace the coal in coal power plants with renewable energy as the ‘fuel’ for the turbines. Thermal storage would be used to offset the intermittency of renewables and keep the power as baseload. It will save jobs in the power plants and save emissions.

To bring light to this topic, Jonathan Walters will interview Michael Geyer (Germany Aerospace Research Centre) who will respond to questions about the technical and financial viability of such plan.
